As you go about your life it is not unusual to encounter times that are more stressful than others. Sometimes the trauma and stresses of these times can become locked in your emotional brain where they keep you in a higher state of vigilance. When you feel on hyper-alert, anxious or threatened your mind will respond to these feelings by activating stress-related hormones into the bloodstream. This action gives you the energy to be on alert so that you can ‘stand and fight’ or ‘run for our life’. When your mind and body are constantly in this state it can place a lot of stress on your body and interfere with your general health and wellbeing.
