Earthquake Anxiety
Hypnotherapy help and support for earthquake anxieties & fears
The Rewind Technique
Rose uses a a very safe and deeply relaxing process called ‘The Rewind Technique’ to help ease the severity of any ongoing emotional symptoms or problems you may be experiencing from the Christchurch earthquake and the subsequent aftershocks. The ‘Rewind’ helps to dissociate a person from a trauma, fear or phobia and is supported by ‘The Red Poppy’ a trauma management company & ‘The Trauma Register’ in the UK. Quite often only one session is needed to help you feel like your old self again.
Rose has completed a series of Training Certificates with Uncommon Knowledge which includes ‘The Rewind Technique’, click here for details
Testimonials
“The session I had with you was invaluable. I am not so fixated on the quakes” Earthquake Anxiety Client
“After the Christchurch earthquake I was confronted with panic attacks and anxiety, unable to hardly sleep, eat or do anything by myself for the fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when one of the aftershocks (or my worst case scenario – another large earthquake) hit. Never expecting to be the type of person to react like this I became desperate to find a way to help myself cope and get to a level where I could get some of my day to day jobs done without freezing every time I heard a rumbling sound and fearing being by myself.
After going to see Rose things improved greatly after using the ‘rewind’ technique and I can now go back to sleep if woken by an aftershock, my appetite has returned, and I am feeling a whole lot better overall. Rose is great to talk to in general, as well as being such an understanding and caring person which makes her that much better at what she does.” Tammie, Christchurch
My session with Rose was great. It was a very relaxing environment and the rewind experience has given me back a sense of peace and has made me settle again after such an anxious time. Thank you Rose. Andrea, Christchurch
“After the earthquake I was very afraid to go to the other end of the house to bed and would not go on my own. Although I could cope during the day I found night time very difficult. I would be frightened to go to sleep and felt I needed to stay awake in case I had to get up quickly. The aftershocks left me visibly shaking and with a knotted feeling in my stomach. After just one session with Rose I am now able to go to bed on my own and feel I have gained control back and put the event in the past and moved forward.” Debbie Ralph, Christchurch
“My experience during the earthquake was particularly traumatic and at night-time the memory of it was dominating my thoughts, leaving me feeling anxious and entirely unable to sleep. Following a ‘Rewind’ session with Rose my recollection of the event is now one of something that happened in the past and which no longer affects me adversely. Now I am able to sleep soundly and my anxiety has disappeared. If I am awakened by an after-shock now, I simply go back to sleep”. Dave H, Christchurch
Self-Hypnosis Downloads
Rose recommends these advanced self-hypnosis downloads created by experienced psychologists & hypnotherapist trainers at Uncommon Knowledge in the UK.
- Overcome Fear and Anxiety
- Stop Thinking the Worst - this can be downloaded individually or as a ‘Perfect Partner’ package with “Overcome Fear and Anxiety’
These mp3′s can be used as an alternative option if you are unable to see a qualified hypnotherapist. My first recommendation would always be to see a professional (for a one-on-one consultation) as these sessions can address your specific upsetting earthqauke memories, anxieties and fears. A Hypnotherapist can help you create a place of safety (internally) which can support you as you work through those stressful thoughts, feelings and events.
Stressful feelings and emotions
13th September 2010
We all have our own unique way of dealing with our emotions in times of trauma so being able to express our feelings is very important. It is preferable to acknowledge them as being natural responses as well as be accepting of them in order for them to be released more easily. You may find that it may take another couple of weeks yet until you begin to feel more like yourself again and it will be different for everyone. Talking and sharing with supportive friends and loved ones will help put things into perspective. Some people I have spoken to have barely been affected at all whereas others are still very panicky and afraid. All reactions are normal due to our perspective at the time, there is no right or wrong.
Some relaxing tips
- Try and give your body and mind a chance to heal and calm by catching up on any ‘sleep debt’ you may have.
- Use the 7/11 breathing technique i.e. breathe in deep, then hold for a moment, then breathe out on a longer out breath as this will naturally calm the mind and relax the body.
- ‘Rescue Remedy’ is an emergency Bach Flower remedy that may help with anxiety, fear and stress etc (available in chemists and health stores).
- Lavender Oil can be used on the body (read instructions first), or on pillows, in baths and incense burners as this is known to help calm and relax also.
- Consider some Vitamin B support for your adrenals (the glands that enable your body to deal with stress), talk to your pharmacy assistant or health shop specialist
- Listen to the Advance with Hypnotherapy ‘Relaxation’ CD or any other calming audio or mp3 you have as you may find it helpful
- Enjoy the sunshine and fresh air as much as possible.
- Do some enjoyable creative activities or light exercise e.g. walking
Be easy on yourself and be aware of your limitations for now. You may be feeling quite weary and tired for a while and this is a natural response. Be accepting that it is Ok to take as long as you need to find your feet again.
